I have decided if I am going to sell my Autographed by the President portrait of Barack Obama. Regardless of your political views, an autographed Barack portrait is historic. I did this portrait from a photograph taken by a campaign worker in 2007 when Barack Obama was a candidate for president. The campaign worker was doing his job going door to door. While we were talking he noticed the artwork hanging on my walls. He asked if I was an artist and if I would draw a portrait of Mr. Obama. He mentioned that Mr. Obama was scheduled to speak in the neighboring town of Knoxville Iowa in December. I said I could have it done by then if he could get me a photograph to work from. Luckily he was smart enough to get a photograph that was crisp and clear and free of any copyright issues. The first drawing I did was of Mr. Obama alone and I had to add some details to the lower part of the drawing. I drew the portrait on a 30" tall by 20" wide illustration board. The campaign worker came and picked up the artwork and said he would do his best to make sure Mr. Obama would see my artwork. Since I decided to support Mr. Obama, being from a town of 500 people I was made Precinct Captain. So on December 30th 2007 I was asked to sit on the stage behind Mr. Obama to show support while he gave his speech. Sitting and waiting as the crowd gathered, I noticed the campaign worker motioning for me to come with him. I followed him back stage to a door. He knocked on the door and Mr. Obama opened it up and said come on in. I was somewhat in shock that he was so casual as he looked at the artwork and said "You must be a supporter, you made my ears look smaller." He laughed and asked "What would you like to do with the drawing. I said "I was hoping you could hang it in the white house". This was three days before the Iowa caucus and was also my birthday, I learned that Mr. Obama and I are the same age, only a few months apart. A week later the worker brought back the portrait signed with a note from Mr. Obama. I then did this drawing a drawing of Barack Michelle Obama as it was in the original photograph. The rest is history! Please look at the portrait of Barack and Michelle Obama that is also in my images on this site

Description
I painted this portrait for a lady that seemed to be obsessed with Amelia Earhart. After talking with this lady and doing the research it took to complete this artwork, I also became a big fan of this amazing woman.
I was presented with four well worn books that had pages marked with the different pictures that she wanted me to combine for the final art.
Since the books were all black and white I had to combine four different photos from four different books and produce them in color.
I combined the face from one photo and the jacket from another. She wanted the scarf and the pin from other photos.
She also wanted the date July 2nd 1937 on the artwork. this was the date Amelia was reported missing.
Since the photos were black and white there was some guessing involved. The lady I did the artwork for couldn't have been more pleased. She took the artwork and had it framed. She told me she wanted to take the artwork to the birthplace museum in Atchison Kansas to see if they would display it there.
After that I moved away and have never seen the lady again. several years have gone by and only now do I realize how popular Amelia Earhart remains.
She was a strong inspiring woman. All I have is this image, I would love to hear from any fans of this amazing lady. I would also be happy to hear from any galleries that think there may be a market for this artwork

I decide when I began this painting that I wanted to make it a watercolor painting. Working from a B/W photo from the Centennial book from the town of Bussey Iowa.
I loved the look of the old horse drawn Huckster wagon, as well as the vintage clothing worn by the family.
I wanted to capture the feeling of the life of a traveling salesman in the late 1800's.
U. G. Earp moved to the town of Bussey Iowa in 1895. The Earp name, best know for the famous Wyatt Earp that grew up in the neighboring town of Pella Iowa. Another neighboring town of Winterset was the home of the actor Jon Wayne. The reputation of the people that lived in the southern part of Iowa has always been tough and very hard working people.
U. G. Earp operated a small general store on the same lot that his house stood. He ran his wagon through the country dirt roads four days a week. The route he took was well planned and the families depended on him for their needs. The farmwives declared they could set their clocks by his arrival.
Mr. Earp with his impressive handlebar moustache became close friends with his customers. On the 4th of July his yard would be filled with teams of horses and his farm friends with their basket dinners.\ He was an active member of the Methodist church until he passed on in 1944 aged nearly 80 years old.
This painting represents the Bread Basket of America and has become the favorite piece of art I have done in the 30 plus years I have been doing artwork. thanks for taking a look.
